The Mediation GRID is a network of mini mediation hubs across Kerala designed to make mediation a real, local, and early choice for resolving appropriate disputes, well before parties consider litigation. It is conceived as a centrally coordinated and locally embedded mediation infrastructure, which is administered through a unified professional framework.
Each local mediation hub is typically anchored in a partner law school. Under this arrangement, the institution pledges its premises for a defined number of days each year at mutually agreed times, provides the facilities required to conduct mediation proceedings, and enables faculty members and students to assist the mediation process in appropriate roles—thereby supporting experiential learning, professional development, and community engagement.
Local self-government bodies—panchayats, municipalities, or corporations—play a complementary, facilitative role. Through their elected representatives at the ward level, they help reach local gatekeepers and the general public, create awareness about mediation and its benefits, and assist individuals and organisations in accessing the mediation hub for suitable disputes.
The Mediation Society functions as the central coordinating and governing body of the Mediation GRID. It is responsible for establishing and periodically updating common protocols, procedural rules, and ethical standards; overseeing hub operations to ensure quality and consistency; managing case intake and tracking; maintaining and administering the panel of mediators; and allocating mediators to cases as appropriate.
