Knowledge & Resources

The Mediation Knowledge Hub is an initiative of The Mediation Society, developed and operated in collaboration with Government Law College, Kozhikode, to build, organise, and advance knowledge on mediation.

Based at Government Law College, Kozhikode, the Hub serves as a resource for the wider mediation community—students, academics, researchers, practitioners, institutions, and others interested in studying and developing mediation.

It brings together three interconnected streams: a Library & Resource Centre, an Online Repository, and a Research Centre.

Established in 1970, Government Law College, Kozhikode is Kerala's third Government Law College and is affiliated with the University of Calicut. With more than five decades of experience in legal education, the College offers three-year and five-year LL.B. programmes and postgraduate LL.M. programmes, and has a student community of over 900. Recognised for its potential to become a Centre of Excellence, the College combines academic learning with a wide range of professional and co-curricular initiatives that prepare students for the evolving demands of law and legal practice. More about the College.

The Mediation Society is a not-for-profit organisation registered in Kerala, India, under the Travancore–Cochin Literary, Scientific and Charitable Societies Registration Act, 1955. Its vision is to inspire a culture where people turn to mediation to resolve conflicts—early and effectively. LIBRARY & RESOURCE CENTRE

A key part of the Mediation Knowledge Hub is developing a specialised collection of resources on mediation and negotiation at Government Law College, Kozhikode. It is intended to serve not only its students, faculty and researchers but, subject to applicable access and licensing arrangements, the wider academic and mediation community.

The Library & Resource Centre will progressively bring together books, journals, research publications, reports, databases, and other physical and digital resources on mediation, negotiation, and related disciplines such as conflict studies, psychology, behavioural science, communication, and dispute-resolution law and policy. Particular emphasis will be placed on specialist and international resources that may otherwise be difficult or expensive for individual students and researchers to access.

ONLINE REPOSITORY

The Online Repository is being developed as an organised, continually expanding digital resource for mediation knowledge.

It will bring together curated developments in mediation law, policy, and practice: legislation and significant institutional developments; judgments; news and events; articles, research, and reports; data and statistics; practical notes, guides, and toolkits; and other useful resources from India and around the world.

The Repository addresses a practical challenge: valuable mediation knowledge is often scattered across institutions, publications, websites, and jurisdictions. By identifying, organising, curating and preserving relevant material, the Repository will make it easier for students, researchers, practitioners and others to discover and use reliable mediation resources.

Developed and maintained by The Mediation Society, the Repository will be publicly accessible where practicable. It may currently be accessed at this website under Learning Centre, Events Calendar and Mediation Basics.

Over time, it seeks to become a reliable and accessible gateway to mediation knowledge for the wider mediation community.

MEDIATION BASICS

RESEARCH CENTRE

The Research Centre will focus on creating new knowledge about mediation through doctrinal, comparative, empirical, interdisciplinary or practice-informed research. The Centre aspires to become a think tank for mediation—bringing academic research and practical experience together to generate evidence, ideas, and knowledge that can contribute to the development of mediation law, policy, and practice.

It will encourage and support research by students, academics and researchers, including research papers, dissertations and doctoral work, while also facilitating collaborative and institutional research projects.

One of its primary focuses will be connecting academic inquiry with mediation practice and experience. To do so, the Centre may undertake or facilitate field and empirical studies; analyse mediation-related data and statistics; study mediation practice and outcomes, settlement patterns, and recurring challenges; and translate lessons from research and practice into useful research publications and knowledge resources.

ABOUT THE LOGO: The Mediation Knowledge Hub's logo draws inspiration from the Knowledge Spiral in the Nonaka–Takeuchi model of organisational knowledge creation, which conceives knowledge creation as a dynamic process arising from the interaction and exchange of knowledge and experience. This idea resonates with the purpose of the Mediation Knowledge Hub. By bringing together resources, an online repository and research, the Hub seeks to create an integrated knowledge ecosystem in which existing knowledge is accessed and organised, ideas and experiences are connected, and new knowledge is generated and shared.
