Kazakhstan Signs Convention Establishing International Organization for Mediation

Kazakhstan has become the latest country to join the International Organisation for Mediation (IOMed), with Foreign Minister Yermek Kosherbayev signing the Convention on the Establishment of the International Organisation for Mediation on behalf of the Government of Kazakhstan in Beijing on 13 July 2026.

The Convention was signed during Minister Kosherbayev's official visit to China, where he also met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi. Following the bilateral talks, the signing formally confirmed Kazakhstan's accession to the newly established intergovernmental organisation dedicated to promoting mediation as a means of resolving international disputes peacefully.

The International Organisation for Mediation was established through the Convention signed in Hong Kong on 30 May 2025. Kazakhstan's accession adds to the growing number of states supporting the initiative and reflects continued international engagement with the development of mediation as a mechanism for resolving disputes through dialogue and consensus.
