Singapore Convention on Mediation, Uzbekistan

Uzbekistan has acceded to the United Nations Convention on International Settlement Agreements Resulting from Mediation, also known as the Singapore Convention on Mediation. According to the United Nations Information Service in Vienna, Uzbekistan acceded on 28 August 2026, making it the 24th State party to the Convention. The Convention will enter into force for Uzbekistan on 28 February 2027. The accession took place during Singapore Convention Week, held in Singapore from 24 to 28 August 2026.
The Convention provides a framework for recognising and enforcing international settlement agreements resulting from mediation. Uzbekistan acceded to the Convention with two reservations under Article 8(1). It will not apply the Convention to settlement agreements to which Uzbekistan, a governmental agency, or a person acting on behalf of a governmental agency is a party. Uzbekistan has also declared that it will apply the Convention only where the parties to the settlement agreement have agreed to its application. These reservations are recorded in the United Nations Treaty Collection and the UNCITRAL status of the Convention.
Uzbekistan’s accession follows the enactment of Law No. ZRU-1167 of 14 August 2026, under which the country acceded to the Convention with the two reservations. The Uzbek government has stated that the accession provides for recognition and enforcement of mediated settlement agreements in international commercial disputes under the Convention’s framework. UNCITRAL also noted that its Secretariat provides technical assistance to Member States undertaking law reform and implementing UNCITRAL texts.
